INTERMEDIATE WILDERNESS SURVIVAL

Living in the Wilderness and Bushcraft Skills

(2 days, 1 night, from 9 am of day 1 to 5 pm of day 2)

About the Intermediate

This survival program focuses on implementing knowledge and skills from the Outdoor Life and Bushcraft Skills programs. Completion of the Novice 1 – Outdoor Life and Bushcraft Skills course is required. The Living in the Wilderness & Bushcraft Skills course will allow you to learn intermediate wilderness bushcraft knowledge and skills. You will practice how to prioritize survival preferences and how to think and behave in unexpected situations. With professional support, this program will allow you to do the following activities independently: build a one-night shelter and a comfortable bed, practice essential knots, develop fire lighting skills, look for water and make it safe to drink, use a compass and maps for navigating in unknown areas, and how to signal for help and rescue. It is only by doing these things yourself that you will develop your skills.  If you want to increase your confidence of staying in the wilderness at night, this program is for you. The course will dramatically improve your ability to subsist when presented with unexpected and/or dangerous situations in the wilderness. Your skills of replacing equipment with knowledge will let you thrive in the wild environment.

During the program, participants will walk around 3-4 kilometres carrying their gear (approx. 30-40 lb). All participants should expect to deal with the elements: cold, heat, rain, wind, snow, etc.

Please, take the preparation for this program seriously. The program contains simulations of unexpected situations during your outdoor activities. We highly recommend physically preparing yourself.  Hiking around 5 km, 2-3 times per week or running every second day for 2 weeks before the program is a great idea. From the Novice 1 – Outdoor Life and Bushcraft Skills program you already know how crucial physical and mental conditions are in unexpected situations.

Context of the Program

This 32-hour immersive training is designed to apply and strengthen all the core survival and bushcraft skills learned in Novice 1 and 2. Held in a true wilderness setting, it includes an overnight stay, giving participants the chance to test their readiness and operate independently in real outdoor conditions.

While the program itself runs over two days and one night, its purpose is to prepare you to survive for up to 72 hours in the wild—safely, confidently, and without reliance on modern comforts.

Beyond physical skills, this course emphasizes developing critical thinking, adaptability, and the ability to plan 10 steps ahead. You’ll build the mindset needed to manage challenges before they escalate, anticipate risk, and take control of your environment rather than simply reacting to it.

You will explore:

  • Implementing all survival priorities in realistic conditions
  • Constructing and sleeping in a functional wilderness shelter
  • Cooking over an open fire with natural materials and minimal tools
  • Practicing advanced fire-making techniques in poor weather
  • Executing real-world navigation exercises
  • Field-testing your personal gear and understanding its true limitations
  • Developing decision-making and adaptability in changing conditions
  • Strengthening muscle memory through hands-on, repetitive practice
  • Working in small teams and building outdoor leadership skills

This program takes a deep dive into core survival skills that are essential not only for emergencies, but also for anyone looking to become more confident, capable, and self-reliant in nature.

My 2 kids did the Novice camp and it was so cool. Vitaliy was a great teacher, very knowledgeable and patient. They keep telling us new pieces of information they learned, stuff I had no idea about! They have also been practicing their knots and are making a plan for their own shelter. Highly recommend!

I attended the free one day course after my daughter attended paid course 4 years ago. During the training, I learned some basic knowledge of wilderness survival, and the most valuable part is I learned how I can overcome my fear of wild animals.

The novice one course is packed with survival information and covered so much on basic survival skills should you find yourself in the unfortunate position of needing it! My goal was to prepare myself for overnight hikes and trail running adventures should something go awry, and it accomplished way more than that. Vitaliy has a ton of experience and highlights his class with personal anecdotes, which emphasizes his messages of being prepared and thinking critically. My one suggestion is to follow the advice on layering to keep warm! There is not a lot of movement on the first day, and although I had 4 layers on and it was plus 10 in April, I still got quite chilled...I shifted from "spring" layers to "winter" layers for the second day and felt much warmer :-) Highly recommend if you spend any time in the forest!

I spent a weekend learning from Vitaliy. He shared so much great information wether it was from the class curriculum or sharing from his personal experiences out in the wilderness. We had a lot of hands on learning which was challenging and so much fun. Vitaliy encouraged critical thinking and thinking ahead to be better prepared for possible unpleasant scenarios. I'm looking forward to my next level course. If you're new to wanting experiences in the wilderness or you've had lots of experiences and want to hone your survival skills, I highly recommend ONE WITH NATURE.

My partner and I just completed the Novice 1 Bushcraft class. We had an awesome time and learned so much. Our instructor Vitaliy is incredibly knowledgable in survival and bushcraft skills, and we came away with so many useful tips. We cannot wait to get outside and continue practice shelter building! My partner and I spend a lot of time outdoors, and we still had lots to learn from this program. Vitaliy helps build a perspective beyond what outdoor education typically focuses on. We learned a lot of the "why"s behind topics like animal behaviour and other outdoor knowledge. I left feeling empowered and excited to learn more.

Vitaliy is amazing! There were clear aims for the day, his communication in advance of, and during the day was impeccable. I never felt rushed or judged, just encouraged and guided to improve my outdoor skills. I wholeheartedly recommend courses with this company.

It is an amazing course about survival and how to using knife and how to build shelter in the forest! Vitaliy is a nice and funny coach! He always made much fun about bears because I am afraid of bears a lot. I am looking forward to join the next level class to learn how to make fire. And recommend everyone who want to learn some knowledge about survival to take these classes in victoria. What a magic trip!

The teacher has a deep knowledge of wilderness survival, a great attitude and was able to communicate/ meaningfully connect with each of us on an individual level. If you attend any of the offered classes, you will undoubtedly come out with skills you didn't have going in. They are each well planned out and properly tailored to all levels of experience.

Vitaly is the best. We went in july for twice 3 days with our kids. Vitaly was super professional and safety was first. Kids enjoyed it and keep on talking about it every day. We learned amazing skills we will be using all our life. We saw so many wild lives. Nature was so generous with us. Vitaly was super patient with our kids.

I had the pleasure of taking the private lesson, Novice 1 with Vitaliy in the summer of August 2024. To say he is very knowledgeable is an understatement. I advise, that you ask as many questions as possible, to absorb some of the knowledge that he has. There is no such thing as a stupid question, when you ask, you get to realize your inexperience and grow and build on that and tweak your next question(s). The decision to take the course was about being prepared and not becoming a victim of circumstances or another statistic unnecessarily. When you drive your vehicle you wear a seat belt don't you? You have the knowledge and experience to operate the vehicle don't you? So why not do the same about survival and bush craft? There are numerous situations that can leave you alone and stranded out in the wilderness overnight and you need to have some knowledge to feel confident, so that you can think calmly and clearly and plan your next steps. Taking the course provides muscle memory and that helps to boost your confidence and keep you calm in a sticky situation. Lots of people watch cooking shows, but ask them to make that meal on the spot and they will have no idea how to execute it unless they replay the video dozens of times and do the process step by step. I would highly recommend the course whether group or private for EVERYONE. Knowledge is power. And for the Christian folks you know what I am talking about... Rev 13 vs 17 God bless. Keep up the great work Vitaliy and One With Nature.
