The Free Wilderness Survival Program for Outdoor Enthusiasts is designed to make our community safer by introducing participants to Optimism Bias—the tendency to underestimate risks in outdoor environments—and how it can lead to dangerous situations.
This program is ideal for hikers, campers, and anyone who enjoys outdoor activities but isn’t necessarily looking to master every survival skill. Instead, it focuses on practical safety knowledge to help you enjoy nature responsibly.
Our expert instructors will cover:
Proper planning for outdoor activities
Essential items, tools, and skills to carry
Survival tactics if you get lost
Understanding survival priorities
Choosing safe shelter locations
Wildlife awareness and safety
Critical thinking and forward planning in the wilderness
Location
The Free Wilderness Survival Program for Outdoor Enthusiasts is located in Metchosin on Vancouver Island. The address is 1258 Neild Rd, Victoria, BC, Canada.
Prerequisites
The minimum age of participants is 17 years old. All participants under the age of 19 have to be accompanied by their guardians.
What to Bring
Weather-appropriate clothing (e.g., rain jacket & pants if raining)
Smartphone with the Gaia GPS app (download & create an account)
Backpacking gear (if you have it)
Water & snacks
Any personal items (e.g., allergy medication, sunscreen, insect repellent)
Banned activities
Drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, bullying others and illegal actions are unacceptable activities during all our programs.
$10 Show-Up Deposit – Why We Require It
Due to overwhelming demand, we require a $10 fully refundable deposit to secure your spot. Many people have booked in the past but did not show up, preventing others from participating.
Here’s how it works:
✅ If you attend the program, your $10 deposit will be fully refunded.
❌ If you do not show up without canceling at least 2 weeks before the program date, your deposit is not refundable.
We limit participation to 10 people per session, so please only book a spot if you are certain you will attend. If you cannot make it, kindly cancel at least 2 weeks in advance to allow others to join.
Important notes
High-Risk Activities – This program involves the use of knives, axes, and other tools. ONE WITH NATURE Corp. is not responsible for injuries, damages, or lost lives. We strongly recommend obtaining personal insurance before participating.
Booking Policy – Due to high demand, bookings open up to 2 months in advance. Participants will receive a confirmation email closer to the event. If you do not confirm your attendance, your spot may be canceled.
